The theory test checks you know the rules of the road before the practical driving test. DVSA runs it at approved centres in two parts: multiple choice on a touchscreen, then hazard perception on a computer.
You must pass both parts in one visit to get your certificate and book the practical test. The car test costs £23 through gov.uk, with 50 questions, 43 to pass, and 57 minutes on the clock. Fees can change, so check when you book.
Our free car mock theory test mirrors the car exam: 50 questions, a 57-minute timer, and a pass mark of 43 out of 50. You see your score straight away, with short explanations for any wrong answers.
Retake as often as you like. Motorcycle, HGV, PCV and ADI mocks use the right question counts for each licence. On two wheels, open the motorcycle mock theory test instead.
Start car mock test
DVSA groups the car theory test into 14 topics. Our car mock draws from practice questions across all of them. Car candidates need 43 out of 50 on the multiple-choice section.
The live hazard test uses 14 video clips, with one clip containing two scorable hazards. You need 44 out of 75 on the car hazard section. Click when a hazard is developing, not in a pattern or at random.
Use our hazard perception practice with still scenes to build scanning habits before test day. It complements the official clip format, not a replacement for it.
Show me tell me questions are on the practical test: one tell me before you move off and one show me while driving. There are 21 DVSA questions for cars.
Steady revision beats last-minute cramming. Mix full mocks with hazard practice, learn signs by shape, and book when you score 45+ more than once on timed car mocks.
